Summary

During the past decade, tremendous progress has been made in the fight against malaria, and the number of cases and deaths from malaria has decreased by half since 2000. The key methods that have made this progress possible are the use of artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) and insecticide-treated bednets. The use of two or more drugs in combination has become the mainstay in the fight against resistance in many infectious diseases, and this strategy has served the fight against malaria well.
