Alan brings a wealth of global health experience to the role
As MMV’s first Board meeting of 2022 gets underway, Mr Alan Court is welcomed as the new Chair taking over from Per Wold-Olsen, former President of Human Health Intercontinental Region, Merck & Co. Inc.
Alan Court joined MMV’s Board as a member in June 2017 and was elected Chair in December 2021.
He is Senior Advisor at the Office of the WHO Ambassador for Global Strategy and Health Financing. Prior to that, Mr Court was the Director of the UNICEF Programme Division. In that role, he led the division’s strategy development, programme guidance and implementation processes and was responsible for ensuring UNICEF’s programmes focused on the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. Previously he served as Director of UNICEF’s Supply Division and had postings in Latin America, Africa and South and Southeast Asia. Mr Court holds a master's degree in Rural Social Development from the University of Reading, Institute of Education.
“MMV has been at the forefront of innovation for malaria drug development for more than 20 years,” said Alan Court, “and today as we continue to battle with COVID-19 and with recognition that the burden of malaria is greater than previously thought – a child needlessly dies every minute of every day – the role of product development partnerships like MMV has never been more crucial. I look forward to working with the rest of the MMV Board and team to guide the development of the next-generation medicines to bring this unacceptable burden down.”
Mr Court takes over as Board Chair at a time when the MMV Board has reached gender parity in its membership, as noted by the Global Health 50/50 report Boards for all?
