Dedicated MSF malaria specialist and MMV APMAC co-chair will be sorely missed
MMV mourns the loss of Dr Martin de Smet, co-chair of MMV’s Access and Product Management Advisory Committee (APMAC), who passed away on the 23rd of November in Ghent (BE).
Martin dedicated his life to improving the health of others. In addition to his work as a family physician, he joined Médecins sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) in 1991 and coordinated the organization’s malaria efforts since 2008.
He has served on MMV’s APMAC since 2017 and became co-chair in 2019.
Martin continued his work until the last days of his life, showing the bright passion and commitment he applied to defeating malaria and helping his patients achieve good health and wellbeing.
“We will profoundly miss Martin’s wisdom, his sense of practicality and focus on execution, his passion for helping people in need, his intellectual curiosity, and his gentle mentorship. Above all, we’ll miss his human decency as a kind and generous colleague,” says George Jagoe, MMV’s Executive Vice President, Head of Access and Product Management.
MMV extends sincere condolences to Martin’s family, friends and colleagues.
