MMV’s CSO Dr Timothy Wells awarded honorary degree from University of Dundee

MMV’s Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), Dr Timothy Wells, has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Dundee, Scotland at its summer graduations. The award recognizes Dr Wells’ exceptional contributions to the fight to control and eradicate malaria.
Dr Wells joined MMV in 2008 as CSO. He transformed the R&D team, building a strong pipeline of innovative new medicines, and establishing new platforms to empower drug development—from discovery technologies to clinical trials and registration.
Prior to joining MMV, Dr Wells had a distinguished scientific career, working in basic science, drug discovery and development in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Throughout his career, he has published over 200 papers on immunology, inflammation and infection. Today, he also plays a key role advising on drug development for neglected diseases beyond malaria. He is a fellow of both the UK Royal Society of Chemistry, and Academy of Medical Sciences.
“I am delighted to hear about Dr Wells’ well deserved honorary Doctor of Laws,” said Dr David Reddy, MMV’s CEO. “As CSO, Tim has been indispensable in establishing the team and expertise to drive forward MMV’s end-to-end drug development engine, leading to the development of the largest ever portfolio of antimalarial medicines, and new products which are saving the lives of children today.”
“It has been an honor to apply my skills at MMV to work on a disease of poverty,” said Dr Wells. “I would like to thank the team and the wider MMV family for their contributions to this work and dedication to reducing the malaria burden.”
