MMV’s contributions to malaria commended at MIM conference

On behalf of the MMV team, MMV’s Chief Scientific Officer, Dr Timothy Wells, was one of 35 scientists and researchers commended for their contributions to malaria by the organizing committee of the Multilateral Initiative on Malaria (MIM) Pan African Malaria Conference in Dakar, Senegal.
Other luminaries commended at the Gala Dinner of conference included Dr Pedro Alonso, Director of the WHO Global Malaria Programme, Prof. Rose Leke, University of Yaounde and Prof. Sir Brian Greenwood of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
“It’s a great honour for MMV’s work to be recognized by the malaria community and to be included with the impressive achievements of other organizations,” said Dr Wells. “It is doubly special that this commendation was conferred at MIM in Dakar, given the immense progress made by the Republic of Senegal to defeat malaria in the country. MMV is committed to the ultimate elimination of malaria and we will continue to work in partnership until we achieve this goal.”
MIM is the largest scientific conference focused on the global fight to eliminate malaria and occurs just once every 4 years. Around 2,000 delegates including researchers, experts and government officials from more than 70 countries attended to discuss the latest findings in malaria research.
MMV and partners participated in and organised several symposia and presentations on topics including new medicines for the control and elimination of malaria, malaria drug resistance, antimalarial drug discovery, improving severe malaria outcomes and seasonal malaria chemoprevention, to name a few.
