MMV mourns the loss of Kamran Rafiq, co-Founder and co-Director of the International Society for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ISNTD), who passed away suddenly on 28 June 2023, aged just 51.

Kamran worked tirelessly to shine a spotlight on diseases of poverty and the populations affected by them, and to strengthen the ties between all those involved in the alleviation of NTDs. Through his efforts, many scientists, researchers and communicators have come together to collaborate on innovative, impactful projects.

Kamran supported and collaborated with MMV for over a decade, and everyone who worked with him has been inspired by his energy and enthusiasm.

“Kamran’s co-leadership of ISNTD had a truly positive impact on the neglected disease community, thanks to the depth of his knowledge and ability to bring partners together,” said Paul Willis, Senior Director of Drug Discovery at MMV. “I always looked forward to my interactions with Kamran and always came away from them enthused and having learnt something new. He will be sorely missed.”

MMV extends sincere condolences to Kamran’s family, friends and colleagues.
