Adolescents have fallen outside the radar of scientists and policy makers, who have understandably focused on populations most at risk - children under 5 and pregnant women. Adolescents in any region are not a homogeneous group; their needs vary by age, gender, socio-economic status, ethnicity, education, and other determinants of health. Thus, to reduce risk of malaria and achieve elimination, malaria programming must be integrated into the overarching multi-sectoral programming of a nation, including health.
