Project Name: Screening for Antibacterials in the Biofocus 250K Library
How will this funding will help advance your research?
Antimicrobial resistance in Gram Negative bacteria in low-income countries is a major problem and is likely to get worse in the foreseeable future. Screening compounds against antimicrobial resistant organisms to identify those with biological activity should be a major priority in tackling this global issue. With this grant, we hope to find new chemicals (and targets) that are active against drug-resistant Salmonella Typhi, the causative agent of typhoid fever. This funding will allow us to begin screening a wide range of chemicals and support a local Vietnamese scientist to develop research skills in antimicrobial resistance and drug discovery.
