The meeting, with the theme of “Power of Partnership” was inaugurated by His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of Uganda who also delivered the keynote address. The agenda focused on formal reviews and discussion on MMV’s progress and plans. The attached agenda gives full details of the events.

On 9 May, an MMV Access Symposium highlighted the development of our work in the context of access and delivery of antimalarial drugs. There was a great deal of interest in this symposium, which was chaired by Catherine Hodgkin, Director, Development Policy and Practice, Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) of the Netherlands and Dr Francisco Songane, former Minister of Health and Head, Neonatal, Maternal and Child Health Partnership, Mozambique.

For those interested in better understanding the local context of MMV’s work, optional site visits were organized to malaria clinics and a day-long site visit was planned to the research site at Jinja on Lake Victoria, one of the sources of the Nile.

A Drawing Contest for children from five elementary schools around Kampala was organized with the Ugandan Ministry of Education. The themes for the contest were centered on malaria and the award ceremony for the winning drawings was held on 4 May. Five winners were chosen by a jury of six, comprising representatives from the Ugandan Ministry of Health, the Ugandan Ministry of Education, and MMV.

This was the third malaria drawing contest organized by MMV in conjunction with its annual Stakeholders’ Meeting.
