Our work
At the beginning of the 21st century, around one million lives were being lost to malaria, and the drug pipeline was virtually dry. MMV was founded in 1999 to help fill the gap. Today, thanks to efforts by the global malaria community, that number has reduced by around 40%. MMV is proud to have contributed to this achievement, with 13.6 million deaths averted by the medicines we've supported (see them below).
Our portfolio of antimalarial projects is the largest ever assembled, and targets unmet medical needs for key populations, such as children, pregnant women and people suffering from relapsing and drug-resistant malaria.
This work contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and to providing healthy and productive lives for all.
