The annual meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene serves as a platform where research meets real-world experience, drawing tropical medicine and global health professionals from around the world to share practical insights and strategic visions. The five-day conference includes plenary sessions, science and clinical sessions, e-poster sessions and an exhibit hall featuring the latest products and services.

Hans Rietveld, MMV's Director for Access & Product Management, will be organizing a symposium entitled, 'Reimagining the continuum of care for severe malaria patients'. The symposium will focus on the challenges associated with diagnosing and managing severe malaria, the new field guide for the use of rectal artesunate as a pre-referral intervention, country-led alternative pathways for severe malaria patients in remote areas where referral is at risk and considerations for a new target product profile for severe malaria therapeutics.

Brice Campo, MMV's Director for Drug Discovery, will be leading a symposium on, 'Emerging data on how best to use primaquine and tafenoquine for the radical cure of Plasmodium vivax'. The symposium will quantify the hematological risk-benefit trade-off of 8-aminoquinoline use, examine the use of methemoglobin to predict 8-aminoquinoline treatment efficacy and subsequent risk of relapse and release results of in vitro and in vivo work with primaquine and tafenoquine to better understand the results of a clinical trial where the efficacy of both primaquine and tafenoquine given together with dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine was sub-optimal.
