Nikolaos Chalkias
Director, Business Development
What I do at MMV:
Within the Business Development team, I am responsible for developing and implementing partnering strategies that contribute to the achievement of MMV’s mission and objectives. I also provide alliance management support for ongoing collaborations.
Why I work at MMV:
Throughout my career I have always been keen to contribute to impactful projects with inspiring teams. MMV is one such team and its work saves lives By contributing my skills towards the elimination and eradication of malaria, alongside the rest of the malaria community, I hope that in 30 years’ time I will be able to say: “I too, played a small part in this effort.”
More about me:
Before joining MMV I was the Commercial Director at OxSonics Therapeutics, a company spun-out of Oxford University that develops a novel drug delivery approach for oncology. At OxSonics I was a member of the Executive Team and was responsible for operational and commercial strategy. Before OxSonics I worked at Oxford University Innovation for five years where I translated and commercialised research. There I completed numerous agreements and helped raise more than £2.5m. The most rewarding aspect from my time there was seeing the success of companies I helped spin out of the university, companies like OMass Therapeutics, Orbit Discovery, and Brainomix. Finally, between 2007 and 2011 I worked at RB plc where I learnt first-hand about product development and worked closely with the marketing team, shaping and delivering product claims. I have a PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Cornell University and my undergraduate degree is in Chemical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. I love travelling and I have lived in four countries (so far).
