Measuring impact

The third pillar of our access work is to ensure that knowledge and insight from the field is put to maximum use. We work with our partners to track, measure, evaluate and document the health impact of and need for new medicines. In addition, MMV Acess & Delivery provides a critical link to make sure the "voice of the field" is considered by our R&D teams after MMV drugs have been introduced and widely scaled up; patient and caregiver experience with these drugs can help inform future drug development. Our areas of focus include:

1. Market impact and evaluation

Understanding the antimalarials market in Africa is essential in order to measure the impact of initiatives to expand access to new, high quality ACTs. MMV is collaborating with partners to better understand how MMV's co-sponsored medicines are achieving market uptake, and replacing older, less effective medicines.

2. Promoting effectiveness studies (Phase IV) for quality ACTs

The generation and dissemination of safety and effectiveness data about the performance of MMV-backed drugs is a critical part of MMV's mandate after products are launched. MMV Access & Delivery, in collaboration with MMV's Medical area, ensures that MMV-backed products continue to be evaluated once they begin to be used in "real-life" settings.
