MMV has received funding and support from government agencies, private foundations, international organizations, corporations, corporate foundations, and private individuals. These funds are used to finance the MMV portfolio of research and development projects to provide new, effective and affordable medicines for the treatment and prevention of malaria. They also support specific, targeted access and delivery interventions to facilitate access to MMV products by vulnerable populations in malaria-endemic countries. Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. In developing countries, it focuses on improving people’s health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty. In the United States, it seeks to ensure that all people—especially those with the fewest resources—have access to the opportunities they need to succeed in school and life. Based in Seattle, Washington, the foundation is led by CEO Jeff Raikes and Co-chair William H. Gates Sr., under the direction of Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett.

The Coordination, Rationalisation and Integration of Antimalarial Drug Discovery and Development Initiatives is an action that will coordinate leading European malaria research initiatives in antimalarial drug discovery and development, integrate the European effort with international initiatives, engage industry and provide guidance on standardisation of core requirements of regulatory drug development. The goal is to contribute towards generating global priorities and prepare the European antimalarial research agenda for the next decade. MMV is one of several pre-funded beneficiaries involved in this initiative.

Globally, ExxonMobil provides funding to improve basic education, promote women as catalysts for development, and combat malaria and other infectious diseases in developing countries.

Irish Aid is the Irish Government’s official overseas development programme. Irish Aid works in partnership with governments and non-governmental organisations, in some of the world’s poorest countries in the ongoing and difficult fight against hunger, poverty and exclusion. The primary regional focus of the Irish Aid programme is with its nine programme countries, seven in Africa and two in Asia. 

National Institutes of Health

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) includes 27 Institutes and Centers and is a component of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is the primary U.S. federal agency for conducting and supporting basic, clinical and translational medical research, and it investigates the causes, treatments, and cures for both common and rare diseases.

Every year, the Netherlands contributes 0.8% of its GNP to poverty reduction. The Netherlands supports initiatives in 36 partner countries, including fragile states, to improve governance, focusing on human rights and a business climate conducive to jobs and good incomes. The same themes underpin Dutch efforts to improve education, water and sanitation, the environment and reproductive health and to fight HIV/AIDS. The Netherlands concentrates on these areas because they are essential to achieving the MDGs by 2015. To this end, the Netherlands is supporting partnerships with civil society organizations, businesses and educational institutions in rich and poor countries.

The Secretary of State for International Development works to promote, manage and implement public policies on international cooperation for development in order to fight poverty and achieve sustainable human development in developing countries.

Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation logo

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation is Switzerland’s international cooperation agency within the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). In operating with other federal offices concerned, SDC is responsible for the overall coordination of development activities and cooperation with Eastern Europe, as well as for the humanitarian aid delivered by the Swiss Confederation. The Agency engages in direct operations, supports programmes of multilateral organizations, and helps to finance programmes run by Swiss and international relief organizations.

DFID is the part of the UK government that manages Britain's aid to poor countries and works to get rid of extreme poverty. Its work is guided by two sets of targets: First, DFID is working to reach the Millennium Development Goals, the international targets agreed by the United Nations to halve world poverty by 2015. Second, the government’s Public Service Agreement (PSA) sets objectives and targets by which progress is measured towards this aim. DFID works with governments of developing countries as well as charities, businesses and international bodies, including the World Bank, UN agencies and the European Commission.
